If I didn’t see this with my very own eyes I may not have believed it!

It was a normal Sunday morning or so I thought. I was out for a stroll with my small dog named Buddy before I had to leave and go to Roswell Road. The first thing I noticed was there was allot of noise in the sky this morning. Everywhere I looked I could hear noise, but the clouds were so thick, nothing appeared. I began to get very nervous about not being able to see anything. A sudden moment of dread! I stopped on the hill and looked up into the sky to imagine a busy sky of planes and air traffic I could not see. Then, as if by magic it stopped! I stood there, thinking, was it a training exercise or did something strange happen?

I continued on my walk down the street puzzled, trying to enjoy the warm morning, saying hi to all the neighbors and being in the moment. Soon enough we had to return to the house and off I went in the car, on my way.
I arrived on Roswell Road and sat in meditation. All at once I could see the planes again, except this time, it was all in black and white. This nice man kept smiling at me, flicking something in his hand! I thought “that’s unusual”. What is this about?
Less than one hour later a lady stepped into my room. A small lady of eighty or more years, with a pleasant smile and bright red lipstick. She sat down and prepared for her first medium reading!
Within a minute or so, I closed my eyes and I was back on my road, on the steep hill looking up into the sky. I could hear the planes everywhere! There was the nice man again, except this time he was right in front of me. I explained to the lady, “I had a very nice man here, who knows allot about planes smiling at me”. She held her handkerchief and tried not to try. The man appearing as young as nineteen years old and all dressed to fight in a war, explained he was in World War II and was a bomber. He showed me his plane and what it was like to sit behind the seat of such a powerful machine. I could see raids and massive operations in the sky. It was a powerful display for such a young man and his co pilot. They were a team! He told me they were together and they were very very proud of how they had helped in some very famous battles that changed the outcome of the War. Then, all of a sudden, the man’s mood changed and he opened the sky to show me what happened next. In a famous Battle in Europe their bomber plane was hit from the side and they went down, were captured quickly by the Germans and held as POW until it was all over.

With tears in his eyes, like he was telling this story for the very first time, the nice young man, showed me how upset he was. He survived the war, went home and these events haunted him forever more. You see that faithful day in March 1944, his right hand man, and faithful co-pilot, who was due to fly up front, came to him, just as they were preparing to leave on their important mission. He pulled from his chest pocket a bright new shinny 1944 penny! He looked at this man and said “let’s toss for who goes in the back”. They looked at each other for a second, smiled and completed the toss.

This wonderful man now standing in front of me, in tears, lost the toss. His friend and co-pilot would go in the back and he would now go in the front. A position he was not scheduled to take. It was his turn to sit in the back. They patted each other on the back like they did so many times before and promised to share a whiskey or some stiff alcohol afterwards, should they get to kiss the very ground they walked on again. Touched the medals on their chest for good luck and assumed their faithful position on board their plane.

Just 55 minutes into their faithful mission of battle, their plane was hit from the side and the co-pilot in the back seat was killed instantly. The plane went down and this man standing in front of me survived the crash only to be caught by the Germans, held as a POW and amazingly got to live to tell the tail.
He lived out the remainder of his life but never forgot the sacrifice his faithful friend and co-pilot made that day, as if knowing it was his duty to suggest such a thing!
A day he should have been sitting in the back!
All because of a brand new 1944 Penny and a coin toss!

This is a remarkable true Story!

We are all somewhere because of the sacrifice someone has made.

Remember this Memorial Day weekend, please raise a glass or say a prayer of thanks and gratitude to the good deeds
someone has done for You!

Sgt Curt never forgot what his friend Sgt Gordon did for him!
(both are pictured above)
He surely got to thank him personally many many years later!

May they both Rest in Peace! Amen!
